Zürich is the largest city in Switzerland and a major business and tourist destination. It is located in north-central Switzerland at the northwestern tip of Lake Zurich. The official language is (Swiss) German, but English and French are spoken by a large part of the population and there is a good chance that you may come through also with Italian. According to several surveys Zürich was named the city with the best quality of life in the world as well as the wealthiest city in Europe. Zürich is home to both the largest university in the country as well as the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH), which will be the venue and the co-organizer of our meeting.
There's quite a bit to do in and around Zürich, from shopping on the central Bahnhofstrasse to sightseeing in Old Town or visiting one of the several museums and exhibitions. Important artworks are displayed in the Kunsthaus or the Rietberg Museum. Marc Chagall's stained-glass windows in the Fraumünster Church are amazing. The night in Zürich pulses with life till the early hours with its numerous clubs and bars. Due to its central location, Zürich is also the ideal starting point for daytrips to visit other swiss cities such as Lucerne, Basel or St. Gallen or to make nice trips on the nearby mountains (Uetliberg , 873 m) or in the heart of the alps (Jungfraujoch, 3.454 m). All these destinations are easily and quickly reached by train and the city has excellent public transportation system.
